Features
Platform
Systems using Intel Centrino Duo Processor technology generally offer the best blend of performance, stability, and battery life of any system. There are also a number of systems that make use of desktop components (motherboards and processors) in a “mobile” form factor. Be cautious when looking at this kind of design – generally they are not optimized for battery life or thermal management.
Graphics Processing
For systems running vertical applications like CAD/CAM, video editing and gaming, a graphics processing card is a key system component.
Hard Drives
Mobile hard drives have come down in price and increased in capacity over time, but for pure drive capability and options like RAID, desktops still lead the way. If you have heavy storage or drive requirements (e.g.: in video editing), carefully weigh the value of system portability compared to a traditional desktop system.
Optical Drive
DVD-RW would be considered standard, with many systems using Blue-ray drives to support high definition content
Connectivity
- Gigabit Ethernet
- 802.11 a/b/g. 802.11a/g/n is also a consideration
- Bluetooth®
