Recovery FAQ
Do I do progressive backups?
Do I save the users applications?
When I do Recovery, how do I keep the new drivers and OS updates? If I don’t, then how will my PC work when I am done?
How do I keep from losing my data and app’s if Non-destructive recovery doesn’t work?
Should I do progressive backups?
PC Angel does not require progressive backups as the technology is based on Non-destructive Recovery / Repair! The progressive backup is used to go back to a point in the history of the PC if the recovery solution doesn’t have the possibility to restore without data loss. The real problem with progressive backup is that it will backup the problem as well as the good data. If a virus is present on the system, the virus will be backed up and then restored. This means you still have the problem you are trying to get rid of and you don’t have a clean copy of your files anymore. PC Angel’s approach is to offer the user the ability to backup all their data prior to doing a destructive recovery.

Should I save the users applications?
In non destructive mode: All user applications are saved and work the same way as before the recovery. Even the Windows Updates are reset back to start and then you can download them again to bring your system to full working order without any data or application loss.
In semi destructive mode: The applications are present in the backup but can’t be used. However, user data for these applications can be recovered by copy and paste(e.g. if using outlook, the PST files can be retrieved out of their respective directory and placed in the new one created by the new install of outlook).
In destructive mode: PC is back to factory settings, therefore none of the user Data/application is present on the PC anymore. The user is allowed to backup their data files to CD, DVD or another HDD prior to a destructive recovery so that they are not lost.

When I do Recovery, how do I keep the new drivers and OS updates? If I don’t, then how will my PC work when I am done?
In non destructive mode: Drivers and OS updates are not affected as they are considered as user data and kept / downloaded again after recovery.
In semi destructive mode and destructive mode: The configuration is driven by original OS and Drivers (PC works properly as when the PC was new), therefore updates will need to be downloaded again from MS updates.
